Postdoctoral Awards

12-month Postdoctoral fellowships in Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience: deadline January 20, 2012.

The ACN network is recruiting postdoctoral applicants to participate in a fellowship training experience in Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience. Postdoctoral applicants who have received their PhD in an NSERC-related field by August 31, 2012 are eligible to apply. Please note that medical residents and students holding NSERC, CIHR, or SSHRC fellowships for the same time period are not eligible to apply. Postdoctoral fellowships from the NSERC-ACN training grant will not be provided to trainees while they hold departmental support that entails a regular time commitment, as this may jeopardize the trainees' ability to reach the goals of the training program. The Postdoctoral Fellowships may be awarded for 1-2 years and will begin in September 2012. Awards include an annual stipend of $40,000 to students enrolled full-time in an NSERC-related program, conducting research relevant to the goals of the Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience Training grant. Students are expected to conduct research with one of the training grant supervisors, listed on the Mentors page. NSERC stipends to Postdoctoral fellows are limited to a maximum of two years' support. Further information on NSERC's eligibility requirements is available at NSERC. Citizens of all countries are eligible for the ACN-Create postdoctoral awards.

Instructions to applicants:

Please examine carefully the research interests of the members in this network who can serve as supervisors. Detailed descriptions of research opportunities can be found at the websites of the Mentors (listed under Mentors page). We strongly recommend that applicants first contact the prospective supervisors via email to determine whether they are accepting trainees for autumn 2012 in the ACN Training grant. Some preference will be given to applicants whose proposal indicates a novel training experience compared with their current training environment; for example, a research project in another lab. Due to the limited number of awards this year, only one application per applicant and one application per supervisor will be considered for the postdoctoral fellowships

Complete the postdoc application form and obtain the signature of a supervisor in the ACN training grant on this application. In addition, applicants must submit a C.V. and arrange to have one recommendation letter submitted from someone other than the supervisor who is familiar with the applicant's research. An official transcript from the most recent university of the applicant as well as a curriculum vita listing any publications are also required with the application package. All applications materials should be submitted to the Program Coordinator by January 20, 2012. Awards announcements are expected to be made in March 2012.

Instructions to supervisors: Please read and sign page 2 of the trainee's application. Supervisors are expected to provide at least 50% ($20,000) of the annual stipend for postdoctoral fellows, and a small conference travel allowance ($1000 per year). The Create grant will provide an annual stipend of $20,000. Only one postdoc applicant can be nominated by each supervisor per year. Supervisors are also expected to have submitted the ACN-Coursework Form [.doc], which is required from training grant members before they apply to serve as supervisors on ACN fellowship applications. If you have submitted the Coursework form for a previous competition you DO NOT need to re-submit it.

Instructions to Recommenders: Recommenders should submit the recommendation form below or a free-form recommendation letter (maximum one page) that includes the requested information to the Program Coordinator by January 20, 2012.
